Viral video clips seemed to capture Jones flashing his middle finger at Jets fans, though he insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“That was regrettable. It was essentially an interaction with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was brimming with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the signal was entirely accidental, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it accidental, you can. But it got corrected pretty quick.”
League Context for Proprietor Fines
This is not the initial instance an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Recent examples involve:
